Message for September 15, 2019 from Pastor Shirley

“Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers” 3 John 1: 2

      We understand that man is a spirit – man Has a soul – and man lives in a body.  I want to touch on what the soul is. The original text (written in ancient Greek) uses the word “psuche” that is translated into Modern English as “soul”.  Words defines the soul as “the seat of Intellect”: the seat of in man, that by which he perceives, reflects, feels, and desires. Basically, the soul is the place that houses our will, our emotions, and our intellect (the thinking, reasoning part of us:the mind).

Have you ever thought about your mind as a box.  A box that has a lid that opens and closes controlled by you. What you allow in your box is your choice.  A box that can be filled with doubt or faith. A box that can be filled with courage or fear. A box that can be filled with vision or no vision.  A box that can be filled with hope or hopelessness.

      Before we received Jesus Christ as our Savior we were condition to follow the ways of the world. Our mind (the box) was filled with ungodly thoughts. Now that we are saved we are-not to be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. Romans 12:2
