Message for September 8, 2019 from Pastor Shirley

There are times when Christians suffer from “spiritual amnesia”.  Spiritual amnesia means; when a child of God forgets who they are, whose they are, why they are.  Unlike physical amnesia which occurs suddenly due to blunt force trauma to the brain. Spiritual amnesia comes on slowly over a period of time.  It starts when a person gradually begins believing the lies of the world, the flesh and the devil over the truth of God’s Word.

In the Scriptures we read  God continually admonishes his people to remember.  The big problem with Israel they would suffer spiritual amnesia when times got hard.  They would forget where God had brought them from and what he had already done for them.  Deuteronomy chapter 8 the Lord tells them that he is bringing them into a good land-be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God.

We all are subject to “spiritual amnesia”.  We must continually remember whose we are-a child of God; who we are- a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession.  Why we are-so that we may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9-10)

The pull of the world can be strong.  The lines of right and wrong have been blurred.  As Christians we must guard against “spiritual amnesia”.

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. Romans 12:1-2
