“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgression from us.” What an encouraging and positive statement. Ever notice who said it and when it was said? It is a Psalm of David written five hundred years B.C. It is Psalm 103:12.
Let us consider some things about the statement. First, the statement is in the past tense. This means something has already taken place. It does not say that in about 500 years our sins will be removed from us. David saw it as already done. This supports the Biblical edict about the “Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world.”
Secondly, it is clear that David understood that the blood of goats and bulls could never remove sin, yet, it was already removed. Faith in God’s word is the key to salvation. Believing what God says leads to a peace about the condition of our soul before Him. To much attention to “law” causes us to wonder (or doubt) our standing relationship with God. We did not remove our transgressions from us, He did. Praise God!
