Why 490 Times a Day Will Set You Free

Why 490 Times a Day Will Set You Free
Jesus didn’t tell Peter to forgive only when people apologize.
He told him to forgive 70 times 7-that’s 490 times in a single day.
“Then Peter came to Him and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” (Matt. 18:21-22).
This command wasn’t just about relationships. It was about protecting our hearts from bitterness and resentment. Forgiveness may or may not restore the other person, but it will always keep your heart free.
Here are two powerful truths often overlooked in Jesus’ words:
  1. Peter immediately realized he couldn’t do this in his own strength.
  2. God never asks us to do something He isn’t already doing for us.
The ability to forgive over and over comes from one source: understanding how radically and repeatedly God has forgiven you. When you live in the reality of His forgiveness, you become empowered to extend it freely to others. Forgiveness isn’t something you earn or beg for. It’s something you receive.
“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins” (Acts 26:18).
God isn’t holding your sins against you. He has already forgiven you through Christ.
“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).
“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them.”
(2 Corinthians 5:19).
“He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:10).

When you practice the 7×70 principle, you break the power of bitterness and step into the freedom Jesus died to give you.
