Grace Looks at Jesus. Law Looks at You.                                   Matthew 14:22-33

Peter stepped out of the boat and did the impossible. He walked on water. As long as his eyes stayed locked on Jesus, the storm had no authority over him. The moment he looked at the wind and the waves, fear rushed in, and he began to sink. Focus changed everything.

 When your gaze is on Jesus, you live in the realm of the miraculous. When it shifts to the storm—or to yourself—you drop back into the ordinary, fearful, and sinking.

Law and legalism always pull the focus onto you: your performance, strength, and failure. Grace keeps the focus on Jesus. That’s why Paul refused to mix the two. Mix law with grace, and the believer’s eyes leave Christ and land on self. Whoever you focus on determines what you draw from—strength or fear.

Peter saw the power of the storm and became afraid. When he looked at Jesus, the storm lost its hold. The waves were still there, but they were no longer the focus.

Don’t lose your focus. The lens of grace keeps your eyes on Jesus, not the storms swirling around you.

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).
