Romans 8:26-28 Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.  He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His “purpose.”

“Purpose”,  (prothesis) from pro, “before,” and thesis, “a place thus “a setting forth.  The word suggests a deliberate plan, a proposition, an advanced plan, an intention, a design. Of 12 occurrences in the NT, prosthesis is used 4 times for the Levitical showbread (literally “the bread of setting before”). Most of the other usages point to God’s eternal purposes relating to salvation. Our personal salvation was God’s abiding faithfulness as He awaits the consummation of His great plan for His church.
