MAKING MARRIAGE GREAT AGAIN Pastors Jerry and LaVerne
“Yesterday is gone—Today is a new day”
To be a successful marriage, husband and wife must walk in the present and not in the past.
Paul said in Philippians 4:14-15-“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead—I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Once a person accepts Jesus as Savior, “Old things are passed away and all things become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
We have seen more problems in marriages where the individuals continued to see their spouse as they were, not as a new, created person in Jesus. They could only see the mistakes or sin that used to be there and could not see a new creation in Christ. Sometimes the result was divorce.
We have the joy and privilege because of the grace of Jesus Christ to begin each day new. Yesterday is gone. God’s mercy is new everyday. Let us look at our marriage this way. Yesterday’s problems and old ways are forgiven and gone. Today is a new day, a new start for my marriage.
Jesus said, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” You can’t move forward if you are looking at yesterday.
Are you looking at your spouse through the eyes of God’s grace? For your marriage to be joyful and fruitful, you must begin anew each day—speaking God’s words and His will over your marriage for today.
We read in the scriptures the Lord’s mercy is new every day. We are admonished to be imitators of Christ. If God’s grace and forgiveness make every day new, as His followers we should have the same attitude. Never live in the past with regard to anything Living in the past is a chain that will hold you back from fulfilling God’s will for you.
