“But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.” Acts 1:8
The Church was established in power. Power (Greek word, “dunamis”) meaning ability, might strength, and miraculous power. I have heard people say that this power has been given to us to overcome sin. But the Bible tells us in Romans 6:11 that the sin problem has been dealt with on the cross –we are dead to sin- and we have been made alive unto God.
The purpose of this power is to be a witness in our world that Jesus is alive. That He came not only to seek and save the lost but to heal the sick, cast out demons raise the dead. Jesus tells us in John 14:12 that He is going to the Father, and if we have faith in Him, we will do what He has been doing and even greater things. This power was so vital to the Church in Acts that Jesus told his disciples not to leave Jerusalem without it. They were going to be filled with the very ability of God – the power that produces the miraculous.
The book of Acts was just the foundation of what God wants to do in the earth thru His people. We are the continuation of that beginning. What God started with His Church in the Book of Acts will be completed by believers who make up His Church today. Yes, that is you and me. We are filled with the Holy Spirit to demonstrate the miraculous power of God in the earth today.
Matthew 10:8 “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received.”
Message Bible, “ Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.”
