YOU DON’T BUY GRACE! YOU RECEIVE A NEW REIGN

The law-minded believer often fires the same charge: “You’re just using grace as a license to sin.” Grace is the only power that actually frees a person from it.

The grace-minded believer answers, “The law can restrain behavior for a while. It has never changed a heart.”

Both statements miss the deeper truth. A license is something you buy with your own money so you can do what you want.

Grace was purchased with the blood of God’s only Son and given to you as a gift. You did not earn it. You cannot maintain it. You can only receive it. And when you receive it, something radical happens inside you.

“For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).

Abundance of grace does not produce more sin. It produces a new reign. Death used to sit on the throne of the heart. Now righteousness does. The person who has truly received grace is not looking for permission to keep living in the old life. That life has lost its appeal because a greater life has taken its place.

Grace does not lower the standard. It changes the desire.
The law shouts “Don’t!” and the flesh still wants to.
Grace whispers “You are Mine,” and the heart begins to want what God wants.

So the next time someone warns you that grace will make people sin more, smile and tell them the truth: grace is not a license. It is a new heart. And a new heart does not want to go back.
